Wikipedia:

Cuadros de una exposición es una famosa suite de 15 piezas, compuesta por Modest Músorgski en 1874. Músorgski escribió la obra para piano, pero probablemente es más conocida en la forma de la orquestación y arreglo que de ella hizo el compositor francés Maurice Ravel.

Mussorgsky compuso esta obra (originalmente llamada Suite Hartmann) inspirado por la exposición póstuma de diez pinturas y escritos de su gran amigo, el artista y arquitecto Viktor Alexandrovich Hartmann, quien sólo tenía 39 años cuando murió en 1873. A manera de homenaje el compositor quiso «dibujar en música», algunos de los cuadros expuestos.

Ya que estamos con Peter Gabriel, el mejor disco de Genesis en mi opinión, obviamente con Peter Gabriel, y a la vez lo mejor del rock sinfónico/progresivo. Una banda que supo ser vanguardista y artística, pero a la vez, increíblemente melódica y accesible para cualquiera que tenga la paciencia de escucharlos. No tiene desperdicio, 53 minutos y 22 segundos de pura magia sónica.

Review de allmusic:

With their fifth full-length album, Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust (translated as With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly), Sigur Rós have taken the poppy, sunshiny leanings of their previous album a step further into the light. The band has always been known for otherworldly soundscapes, and while there is enough of that here to keep the faithful happy, the band also writes straightforward, three-minute pop songs like the incredible catchy, sticky-sweet duo ("Gobbldigook," "Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur") that kick the album off like the first rays of the morning sun blazing through your bedroom window. That feeling continues on through the album as both the joyously soaring vocals and the buoyant melodies keep things floating happily on air. The arrangement of sound is quite different from previous albums, too. In the past their sound was characterized by a great wash of instruments merging together into great, gently heaving walls and waves of sound; on this album, for the most part, you can pick out individual instruments whether it's the acoustic guitar that underpins many of the songs (and provides the main backing on the intimate and quite lovely, and quite un-Sigur Rós-like, "Illgresi") or the lone piano that begins "Ára Bátur" (which does expand out into an epic undertaking with over 90 people including the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Boy's Choir eventually playing on the track). Despite the few tracks that reach for the heavens, for the first time the band sounds grounded and stripped down. Songs like "Festival," with its pounding bassline and charging drums, and the melancholy album closer, "All Alright," which is based on a lonely piano figure (and features lyrics sung in English for the first time in the group's history), are firmly tethered to earth and shorn of excess artifice. In the past it was easy to be impressed with the sound of Sigur Rós, to be carried away by the grandeur of the band and be hit hard by the titanic emotions. On Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust you can really hear the human hearts behind the wall of sound, and while the emotional impact is on a smaller scale, somehow it is even more affecting.

En mi opinión, la obra maestra de Robert Smith. Un disco de aquellos. Y es otra prueba de que se puede hacer música profunda con muy poco.

Melancólico, triste, depresivo, enojado son los adjetivos que mejor le caben, aunque también hay algunos temas "alegres" (un sentimiento de felicidad post-tragedia diría yo, los primeros 3 tracks).

LA obra "clásica" para guitarra. Tiene una majestuosidad y liricismo impresionante, sublime.

Esta es la versión de Paco de Lucía, la versión preferida por el mismísimo Joaquín Rodrigo. Realmente suena español, a diferencia de otros (brillantes) guitarristas que la tocan a la perfección pero no se escucha el flamenco (John Williams, Kazuhito Yamashita, etc.)

Dejo un video del segundo movimiento, el más conocido léjos, probablemente ya lo conozcan de algún tributo. Una de las melodías más preciosas que escuché:

Difícilmente los primeros seguidores de Alison Goldfrapp (los que conocían sus colaboraciones con Tricky, en Maxinquaye, Orbital, en Snivilisation y Add N to X, en Avant hard) podían esperar un debut como Felt mountain. En lugar de una nueva muestra de exuberancia vocal, lo que escuchamos es un trabajo de electrónica ambiental, con una contenida Goldfrapp en una faceta desconocida hasta entonces, etérea, como surgida del cosmos, incluso tratada en ciertos temas para abundar en ese mismo efecto de voz no terrenal. Es una electrónica que jamás soñó con sonar tan orgánica y cálida, que no desprecia la escritura tradicional y conoce la hondura sentimental que confiere una sección de cuerdas de sabor cinematográfico. Desde el sugerente silbido inicial de Lovely head hasta los tensos acordes con los que finaliza Horse tears, el álbum debut del dúo Goldfrapp (formado por la vocalista y Will Gregory) es tan emotivo y penetrante como el desesperado gripo que se escucha Deer stop y que nos pone la sensibilidad a flor de piel. Aunque tras una primera escucha Felt mountain puede dar la sensación de ser en exceso monotono, algo que se debe a su brillante homogeneidad y coherencia, sucesivas aproximaciones a esta maravilla desvelan sus múltiples influencias y la enorme variedad de los nueve temas. Desde las bandas sonoras de films de espías a la música de cabaret (Oompa radar), pasando por los ritmos latinos (Human), el ocasional empleo de instrumentación jazzística, sabor folk, atmósferas de ciencia ficción y hasta pop sesentero. Un álbum, en su conjunto, intimista y melancólico, de carácter invernal, ideal para que vuele la mente y afloren los sentimientos más profundos. Deja para la posteridad, además, piezas como Pilots o Utopia, posiblemente la cumbre Felt mountain.

Yo no escribí eso, pero es bastante acertado.

Esta banda sueca (y este disco en gran medida) revolucionó el death metal progresivo, incorporando influencias del folk nórdico, del rock progresivo de los 70' y hasta por momentos un poco de jazz también.

Son temas largos, con muchos cambios y cortes y contrastes más que interesantes. Desde los contundentes riffs y más podrido del death a lo más tranquilo y melodioso del folk, todo en un mismo tema.

Todos los temas escritos por Mikael Äkerfeldt, lider, cantante y guitarrista de la banda....tienen que escuchar la voz de este muchacho, tanto podrida como "normal". El disco es producido por Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) asi que es garantía de que suena bien.

Fanáticos del fusión tienen que escuchar este disco. Es un disco de estructura jazzera, lo único que está escrito serían los estribillos que hay cada tanto y los vamps sobre los cuales improvisan, sacando eso es todo improvisado.

Los tres son grandes virtuosos de su instrumento, Hellborg fue bajista de Mc Laughlin y Shawn Lane es simplemente impresionante (aunque más impresionante es lo desconocido que es). Sipe no toca nada mal tampoco.

Symphony No. 3, Op. 36, also known as the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs (Polish: Symfonia pieśni żałosnych), is a symphony in three movements composed by Henryk Górecki in Katowice, Poland, between October and December 1976. The work is indicative of the transition between Górecki's dissonant earlier manner and his more tonal later style.
A solo soprano sings a different Polish text in each of the three movements. The first is a 15th-century Polish lament of Mary, mother of Jesus, the second a message written on the wall of a Gestapo cell during World War II, and the third a Silesian folk song of mother searching for son killed in the Silesian uprisings.^[1]
The first and third movements are written from the perspective of a
parent who has lost a child, and the second movement from that of a
child separated from a parent. The dominant themes of the symphony are
motherhood and separation through war.

Es de lo más emotivo, solemne y enternecedor que escuché. Una verdadera lástima que compositores como este sean prácticamente desconocidos, incluso en círculos "académicos".

El "género" vendría a ser minimalismo sacro, en una línea similar a la de Arvo Pärt (ya voy a subir algo del tío Arvo también )

La interpretación de Upshaw está mejor que la del video, y suena mucho mejor también.

Grupo de rock/metal experimental, liderado por el ex-Faith No More, Mike Patton.

Es increíble la cantidad y diversidad de influencias que mezcla (y de manera muy Zappa) esta banda, y para lo eclécticos que son, este disco es bastante coherente y estructurado (al menos comparandolo con otros en los que estuvo Patton, sin contar FNM).

La producción es de puta madre también, el disco suena bárbaro, y sorprendentemente está grabado en cinta (se deben haber vuelto locos los técnicos con lo cargados que son algunos temas :mrgreen: )

Igor Stravinsky - Consagración de la Primavera (Rite of Spring) (mp3 320kbps)

Probablemente la obra orquestal más importante e influyente del siglo XX. Es un ballet (por eso no tiene la típica forma sonata de 3 movimientos) y causó mucha controversia en su estreno en 1913.

Obra muy densa, compleja y difícil de tocar, innovó con la inclusión de varios recursos que no se usaban prácticamente hasta entonces, como la politonalidad (superponer dos tonalidades a la vez), polirritmos, nuevas formas de orquestación y demás cuestiones armónicas y rítmicas que no me da el cerebro para analizar. Todo esto con un resultado altamente musical, aclaro.
